What's Next?

After a 2 year hiatus… Ahhhhh, I have been inspired… to live again, to breathe again, to write again?

Well for the moment let’s get into the write again part. Do you ever feel uninspired? Do you ever wonder what’s the point in perusing a dream or goal when it seems so out of reach? I found myself feeling just that way. For a writer, there is no instant gratification… not many social media likes or beautiful photography to share, not many people frequenting your site with cash in hand to buy your hair growth pills, or body slimming tea. For a writer (specifically a blogger) it’s pretty cut and dry. You have your opinion or your interpretation of the world. Hopefully a million people can connect with your view and you can turn that into a brand or business. Bloggers are essentially a product with no product to sell. Who would want to buy the thoughts of 32 year old still trying to figure out this thing we call life herself?

I lost my passion for a while. As the world turns, we see an overwhelming flux of social media personalities and overnight sensations. I found myself wondering what was the point? How can I say what’s already been said a million times before and make it interesting enough for you to read it once more from me? How can I make the world feel my energy?  I guess you can say I was looking for a sign of some sort to lead me in the right direction in terms of my writing, hell, in terms of my entire freaking life (insert crying emoji for dramatic effect).

The last few weeks have given me the “sign” I needed to purse my passions unapologetically. After visiting my home state of Michigan I found myself literally back where I started six years ago, surrounded by my best friends and my family. Isn’t it funny how when you’re at a fork in the road, you go back to your comfort zone? The things I hated about living here years ago didn’t seem so bad. The winter didn’t seem so long and the shopping didn’t seem to be as dreadful (with exceptions).  Surrounded with people who love me. Genuinely love me. No conditions, no expectations, no exceptions. Funny how people say all you need is love, but you never really get that until you need that.

Blessed with the flair of being dramatic, I was looking for this sign of what’s next in everything. I’m talking Life Coaches, Counselors, Psychics, Tarot Cards and my favorite advice givers on earth Bartenders. I didn’t actually visit with a Psychic but I was not above it. Isn’t it funny how the older you get you find yourself doing things you said you would never do?

One day while drinking a glass of my favorite wine Rombauer Chardonnay or 5 o’clock Gin… I can’t remember. Same difference. I received an email from an old friend asking to use one of my posts from over 2 years ago for his ahh-mazing travel website. Flattered and a bit astonished, I immediately replied “absolutely, if you would like for me to write anything else for you in the future, just let me know. I would love to help out.” Insane, isn’t it? Here I am with my very own blog that I haven’t even so much as looked at in about 2 years, receiving an email from someone I very much admired asking to feature one of MY blogs on his travel website. After a few days of going back and forth with him about the details, I decided to check my blog stats. To my surprise you guys have been checking my blog quite faithfully. There hasn’t been one day within the last year (I can’t see further than that) that someone hasn’t at least checked me out. Flattered I must say. I started to think… where would I be by now if I didn’t stop? What if I fought through whatever curve balls life had thrown me and thugged this here writing thing out? What if I didn’t take 2 years off and stayed with it? A few days later I received another email. A woman was thanking me for a post I wrote eons ago about a blow bar.

Is this the sign I was looking for? Certainly seems that way. I started to think about how fearless I was at one point in my life. I would get an idea in my mind and I would pursue that idea relentlessly. Before I had thoughts of getting married and building a home. Before the idea of buying new cars, Chanel bags and Louboutin’s were the symbols of success. Intuition and thought was all the reason I needed to go.

What’s next? I don’t know. I do know I have a responsibility to myself to write. It may not be everyday or every week, but I will write. A very wise woman once said "just keep swimming" and that is what I intend to do. Thank you all for your continued support.

Copy & Paste Friends

While I was doing a little Sunday cleaning M.A. stumbled on an article about friends who copy and decided to share it with me. As I know he could care less about the drama that can consume us ladies and our friendships I thought it very kind that he had me in mind so I immediately stopped to read. I have had issues with this in the past and no matter how I tried to explain myself or how much I prayed about it, I just could not seem to shake the irritation…

I decided to help out by giving you guy's my 5 steps to get to the next level in whatever area of life you want to improve.

Personal Problem

Today I woke up mad… No particular reason…. I had a wonderful evening but somewhere between watching a movie on Netflix and waking up this morning I some how wound up on the wrong side of the bed. Has anyone else ever had this happen to them as well?  Have you ever been having a good day and suddenly think of something someone said or did and that thought takes you right back to that moment? That argument where you should have said more, or that shade someone was throwing and you let it slide… Yes, this too has happened to me. In times like this I have to work extra hard on myself.

In The Business of Everybody Else's Business

It’s been almost a year since I read any gossip sites or tabloid magazines. For some that may not be a big deal, but for me that is HUGE! I was addicted! Everyday some celebrities business was on display for the world to see and I was all up in it hunni.

Closed MINDS Don’t Get Fed!

It baffles me the amount of people that do not eat sushi. I am completely stunned. In all the advancements of modern medicine, people would rather eat five-day-old pizza than to eat a piece of raw fresh fish. And please do not get me started on a steak well done. I cringe every time I see a perfectly fine Filet almost burned to a crisp because someone is afraid of getting mad cow disease.

Online Verified… Who Are You?

Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Vine, Tumbler and so many more. With so many different Social Media platforms we now have 24 hour access to our favorite people on the planet... With all that access to others lives, how many people really know who they are once they log off? I'm not speaking of basic name and location. I mean do you really know what you like or does the number of likes and followers let you know you're on the right track? Are we feeding our egos or are we connecting with like minds?

Frienemies

Ladies, let's kill these fake friendships... I'm exhausted trying to keep up with all the daggers and jabs being thrown.

This is so hilarious, yet so true to life... Do yourself a favor and cut the drama out of your life in all areas.

Happy Birthday To Me!

Today is officially the last day of my 20’s… such a milestone huh? I remember being afraid of turning 30. I remember feeling like 30 was so far away… I was very young and naive in thinking that 30 were really all that old. My taste has evolved into that of a mature woman. I remember my very first “sex on the beach” almost 8 years ago… I was all about my sweet fruity cocktails, now I prefer my martinis very dirty. Forever21 and Wet Seal were some of my favorites… I used to think Banana Republic and Zara were for ‘boring’ girls… I had to laugh at myself looking back on all of the things I thought were cool.

He's got to go!

Get your life with my Throwback Jam of the day. With all this talk of relationships I decided to share what I'm listening to at this exact moment.

Angry Much?

"The moment " I think I'm giving up on black women... You guys always are angry or wake up angry".... I'm going to say something. But if your girl is angry every time she wakes up maybe she's angry because she wakes up to YOU every morning. I'm sure the days she sleeps alone she is fine. Stop making comments like this... We are NOT all alike and maybe just maybe it's something about you that sets her off. (Or just the sight of your face)"

One of my Facebook friends put up this stat in response to men calling black women angry. Although I myself am a black woman I decided to focus on all women not just black women. I honestly believe that all women go through similar things. This post is my attempt to take a few steps back and go at this topic from both sides...

Fake It Till You Make It?

“What I see is trying to make sure that everybody thinks you have more than what you actually have. What’s the point if you actually don’t have it? If you don’t have it, then you don’t have it. Have what you have. Enjoy that . . . The craft is everything. Don’t be afraid of not being the wealthiest person in the room. Be the smartest person in the room. Be the slickest person in the room. Be the most creative person in the room. Be the most entertaining person in the room. Just be in the room.”
                                                                                 -Jill Scott-

This is a quote by Jill Scott in response to the music industry and how “most” musicians feel the need to pretend they have more than they do or act to be someone they are not. I am not in the music industry however I believe this is something I see all the time on social media.

They "Tried It"

Lord, why is this picture so funny to me? This is not the face of a sane person! I’m telling you this man is about to SNAP off in 2.5 seconds. This is the face you make when somebody lying on you to your face, This is the face you make when you sign up for something on the internet that says free and they charge your ass $200. This is the face you make when you buy a dress to wear out, you get home and the damn security tag is still on it. This is the face you give when a funny acting hoe ask you if you’re wearing “pack hair” Chile I can NOT with Kanye…

Let's bow our heads and pray that this man fights his demons. I understand him... I honestly do. People will push you until they get a reaction out of you. We have to be smarter than that. There is no way you can defend yourself against every person that "tries it." Just let it go and let your actions prove who you truly are.

Misused word of the day

Overuse of words often times lead to confusion. Because we live in such a bandwagon society I believe people used “buzz words” in an effort to stay current. Last week we were all popping mollies and sweatin (whoo). This week we “don’t pop molly we rock Tom Ford”… yea… I understand the confusion. I’m going to do my best to clarify a few commonly misused terms and words throughout my blog.

Single after 30?

With my 30th birthday approaching, it seems like I'm getting asked about marriage more often. This past weekend I was hanging out with a few girlfriends at the beach and we started to talk about our feelings towards engagement and a possibility of walking down the aisle. Maybe I’m just a freak of nature, but honestly I’m not in any rush. I’ll take my advice from the same place I always get my advice from… The Kardashians.

Seriously Ladies I don’t think we should put that much pressure on ourselves to be married by a certain age.  Besides, I think a long engagement will suit me just fine whenever the time comes.
