I had the honor of spending a
few hours with a dynamic group of women this weekend. All four of us were from
relatively small areas of Michigan and had now moved away in the pursuit of
happiness. After talking with them for hours about how trying our first year
away from home was, we toasted our glasses to the joys of having the strength
to make it out on our own. We also shared in the pain of losing friends
along the way. I truly believe every woman needs that bond. God knows how I needed to connect with women that truly understood where I came from and where
I am trying to go.
To understand the dynamics of your friendship, is to know yourself. How do you feel while around your close
friends, what do you talk about with them and can you be yourself? Do they encourage
you, do you feel inspired by them and is this friendship healthy? These are questions you should have clear
answers to.
I honestly believe some
people bring out the worst in others. I can clearly remember feeling like I was
in completion with women and I couldn’t quite trust that they had my best
interest at heart. All of these feeling caused me to become super defensive and
protective. To constantly go into battle
mode with anyone is draining. You never really realize how trust issues affect
your everyday social life.
The impact that these ladies had on me this weekend is nothing short of amazing. As Black women I
believe it is our duty to paint a positive picture of our sisters. As women we
should congratulate another woman when you’re seeing her shine and help her out when you see her down! All of this
catty, backstabbing behavior is so unattractive ladies. We all look so much
better celebrating each other’s success.
These lovely young ladies are best friends and business partners. They
are such a great example of a positive dynamic friendship. You can find both of
these ladies on Instagrm promoting their “It Works” business @prettyparis143
and @envied_admired.
